The Myth of Flexibility

Aug 9
1 min read

I’m back in New Orleans after a tiring day of travel. Both flights were delayed—and, as it turns out, that was actually a good thing! If the second flight hadn’t been delayed, I would have missed it, had to spend the night in Las Vegas, and I’d do almost anything NOT to spend more time in Vegas than I have to, lol!

It got me thinking about flexibility—getting and/or being flexible.

When we think of flexibility in yoga, we often think about touching our toes, folding deeper, or getting our legs into impossible-looking shapes.

And sure, that may come with practice.

But the deeper flexibility of yoga isn’t physical. It’s having an open mind.

Think about a delayed flight. You can spend hours frustrated that things aren’t going according to plan—or you can take a breath, adjust your expectations, and make the most of where you are.

Yoga teaches us that same kind of flexibility: letting go of how things should look, meeting the moment as it is, and staying curious when things don’t go as expected.

Maybe yoga isn’t about becoming more flexible so much as lengthening, breathing, and learning to bend without breaking.

And yes… you may find your toes in the process :)

We have another well-rounded lineup this week so come one, come all, invite your friends and remember Vicki is joining us again on Thursday!
